1. Overview

Lexify ("we", "us", or "our") is a language learning app that helps users build English vocabulary from real content — articles, pasted text, video transcripts, and scanned text. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices available to you.

In short: We collect only what is necessary to provide the service. We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

2. Information We Collect

Depending on how you use Lexify, we may collect the following:

3. How We Use Information

  • Create and securely manage your account
  • Sync your word list, collections, and learning progress across sessions
  • Generate statistics such as daily streaks, CEFR distribution, and word counts
  • Process camera images for real-time OCR text scanning
  • Display time-stamped transcripts alongside YouTube videos
  • Deliver word-of-the-day, pronunciations, and translation features
  • Improve app performance and resolve errors
No advertising. Your data is never used for ad targeting, behavioural profiling, or sold to third parties.

5. Device Permissions

📷 CameraUsed solely for OCR scanning of physical text (books, signs, etc.). Images are processed for text extraction and are never stored persistently.
🖼 Photo LibraryAccessed only when you choose to import an image for OCR. Selected images are not stored beyond the immediate processing request.
🔊 Text-to-SpeechLexify uses the device's built-in TTS engine to pronounce words. No microphone access is requested and no audio is recorded.

You can manage all permissions at any time in your device's Settings → Lexify.

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored on Supabase infrastructure using TLS encryption in transit and AES-256 encryption at rest. Passwords are never stored by Lexify — authentication is handled entirely via Google OAuth. Sensitive tokens are stored only in your device's secure storage.

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, saved words, and learning history are permanently deleted. Aggregated, anonymised usage statistics may be retained.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, and to object to specific processing activities. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below.

9. Children's Privacy

Lexify is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users in the European Economic Area must be at least 16, or have verified parental consent, to use the service.

10. Policy Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via an in-app notification or email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the most recent revision.
